Starting in the Fall ’09, students who take upper level French or Spanish at Colfax High School and earn at least a B, will be able to get college credit for those classes at Sacramento State University through the ACE program! French teacher Mrs. Jana Sacharuk and Spanish teacher Mrs. Catherine Fox-Anderson recently submitted their course outlines along with their resumés, and successfully had their upper level courses approved. Through ACE, which stands for Accelerated College Entrance, qualified students can study upper level Spanish and/or French and earn not only high school credit, but also college credit that can be applied to degree programs at Sacramento State or may be transferred to other universities. A standard Sac State transcript is issued for the successfully completed course(s).

The only requirements for enrolling in the high school ACE program are to attend high school and have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher, have the permission of parents/guardians to begin university work, and have the permission of Mrs. Sacharuk or Mrs. Fox-Anderson and the ACE director. A small fee of $15 is required upon application, but when one considers that 4 units of college credit can be received for $15, this is a bargain compared to the costs of the AP exam or college tuition, which would amount to about $2,000 for 4 units!

To apply, students need to fill out the ACE Student Application which is available from Mrs. Fox-Anderson and Mrs. Sacharuk, obtain all necessary signatures for the application along with a copy of their high school transcript, and submit by the given deadline.
