Auburn woman wins $1.6 million at Thunder Valley
Jackpot hit on 'Wizard of Oz' nickel machine
Today Glinda the Good Witch bestowed her blessings on Susan Nott, of Auburn, who won more than $1.6 million on a five-cent slot machine at Thunder Valley Casino. Nott was only playing the Wizard of Oz machine for half an hour Tuesday morning before she hit the jackpot. ``It really hasn't sunk in yet,'' Nott said. ``I am still trying to digest it.'' That particular slot machine is a progressive machine that is linked up to many other casinos. Nott said she stopped by the casino on her way to work because there was a ring she wanted at Sierra Moon in Auburn and she figured she could play and get some money. Nott is a federal government employee who had been planning on retiring in February 2010. She said that the Wizard of Oz slot machine has always been lucky for her and she and her friend Geane Woodcock usually go and play on it. She said that usually they win some money on it but never more than $3,000. Nott said that when they play together they usually split the money and go home. Woodcock was not with her today when she was playing at the slot machine today, but she immediately called her after she had won. ``I was crying and I didn't know what to do,'' Nott said. It took Woodcock who lives in Lincoln about 10 minutes to get there to be with her friend. Nott already has big plans for what to do with the money. ``I am going to buy my best friend Geane a car, pay for my mother's prescriptions, and pay off my children's student loans,'' Nott said. Her two children just graduated from college and Nott said the money will help a lot, especially with her mother's prescriptions. She also said she is going to invest the money that she has left over. ``It's unbelievable,'' Nott said. Megan Sanders can be reached at megans@goldcountrymedia.com.
