Cop bitten by dog nabs owners for drugs
A Roseville Police detective made a drug bust last week after what can only be described as “dogged” investigation. The detective was off duty on Oct. 29 when he was bitten by a dog in a parking lot at 1850 Douglas Boulevard, according to a police report. The German shepherd apparently poked its head out the window of its owner’s Jeep just enough to make contact with the officer’s forearm, police Spokeswoman Dee Dee Gunther said. “He told the driver the animal just bit me, and you need to stay here while I call animal control,” Gunther said. Instead, the driver got into the car and drove away. The detective, who had identified himself as a police detective, followed them in his personal vehicle, and notified police dispatch of their whereabouts. Turns out, they might have had reason to run. Officers stopped the car at Sierra College Boulevard and Greenback Lane, and during an investigation officers noticed the passenger had some “suspicious bulges” in his pants, Gunther said. The objects fell out and was found to be several pipes used for smoking methamphetamine. A search of the car also turned up marijuana, Gunther said. Arrested were the driver, Jennifer Dawn James, 35, of Orangevale, on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, obstructing an officer and driving with a suspended license. The passenger, John Howard Hodgkins, 65, of Sacramento, on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance. The detective received medical care and was doing fine. The dog was placed in protective custody.
