Chaplains organize fatal accident training
Multi-agency event to take place in Newcastle

Friday night Placer County emergency responders will have to respond to a fatal accident.

Placer County law enforcement, fire and emergency responders will gather at 6 p.m. in Newcastle to take part in an incident training event organized by the Placer County Law Enforcement Chaplaincy.

The training will simulate a fatal vehicle accident involving a drunk driver and a propane leak, according to Art Pauly, senior supervising chaplain.

It will include firefighters from Newcastle Fire, officers from the California Highway Patrol Auburn office, Placer County Sheriff’s deputies, American Medical Response EMTs and chaplains.

“It’s going to be a pretty big exercise going on,” Pauly said Thursday.

Pauly said community members will take part by depicting how family and friends react to news of losing a loved one and emergency responders will practice extricating a person from a vehicle.

Pauly said those involved will practice communication skills, accident scene control and hazardous material control.

The training will takes place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the east end of Cypress Street in Newcastle.
