Placer to host playoff game
Hillmen face Foothill in Div. IV opener
By Todd Mordhorst Journal Sports Editor

After 27 years, playoff football is returning to LeFebvre Stadium.

Placer High will host Foothill in a first-round Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV playoff game Friday at 7 p.m. The section announced the playoff pairings Saturday evening and rewarded the Hillmen’s 9-1 regular season with a No. 3 seed in the Division IV-A bracket.

Placer beat Whitney 28-19 in its regular season finale Friday in Rocklin. The Hillmen claimed second place in the Pioneer Valley League to undefeated Lincoln, which earned the top seed in Division IV-A.

Both Colfax and Del Oro will also be a part of the new expanded playoff format, which is based on enrollment rather than league alignment.

Del Oro earned a home playoff game for its 8-2 regular season. The Golden Eagles will host Christian Brothers Friday. Del Oro is seeded eighth in the Division II bracket – widely regarded as one of the toughest playoffs in the state. A first-round win would likely send the Eagles to St. Mary’s to meet No. 1 St. Mary’s.

Colfax will hit the road as it returns to the playoffs after missing the postseason last year for the first time under coach Tony Martello. The eighth-seeded Falcons will face high-powered Modesto Christian in the Division IV-B bracket.
