Man arrested almost two years after sexual assault
Backlog delayed testing of DNA evidence
An alleged attacker is in jail almost two years after he reportedly sexually assaulted another man. Ladd Douglas Wiidanen, 41, of Rocklin, was arrested Thursday morning after DNA tests linked him to a sexual assault at a New Year’s Day party in 2008. In the early morning hours of Jan. 1, a 27-year-old male victim reportedly woke up “out of dead sleep” to find a male sexually assaulting him, according to Rocklin Police Dept. Lt. Lon Milka. The victim reportedly was from out of town and came to attend a party at a Rocklin home on the 5400 block of Quane Road. Wiidanen was reportedly from the neighborhood and attended the party earlier in the evening, Milka said. Investigators collected DNA evidence from the victim and Wiidanen and sent it for processing at the Department of Justice. However, “due to a high volume of DNA processing requests,” the submitted evidence was not processed until this month, Milka said. Milka said Rocklin Police detectives arrested Wiidanen after they received the results. Wiidanen was booked into Placer County Jail on a felony charge of oral copulation with an unconscious victim and another felony charge of sexual battery. He is currently held on $150,000 bail. ~ Jenifer Gee
