UPDATE Tuesday P.M.
Placer High to have 'delayed schedule' Wednesday
Icy conditions caused schools to cancel classes Tuesday

Placer High School will hold classes on a two-hour delay schedule Wednesday, officials said Tuesday evening.

Administrators are still concerned about some “extremely slippery areas” at Placer High School resulting from Sunday night’s snowstorm, said Anne Evans, Placer Union High School District administrative assistant.

The first bell will ring at 9:32 for class Wednesday. All bus schedules will be shifted two hours later, she said.

Many local schools stayed closed Tuesday due to remaining snow and ice conditions from the storm.

Placer, Chana, Maidu, Colfax and Foresthill high schools got a second snow day Tuesday after school was canceled Monday.

Although a two-hour delayed start was originally scheduled, problems with buses Tuesday morning resulted in cancelation of classes.

“It really was a transportation issue," said Doug Marquand, assistant superintendent of the Placer Union High School District. “The bus yard stated they couldn’t transport. They couldn’t get the vehicles out.”

Marquand said several drivers slipped and fell on the ice and certain other proceedures couldn’t be done to make the buses operational.

Placer Union district schools have one snow day built into their schedules. It remains to be seen whether the second snow day today will be waived or need to be made up, Marquand said.

“The snow season is just starting,” he said. "We’ll have to wait until we’re closer to the end of the season to see what options we have.”

Auburn Union Elementary School District schools remained closed Tuesday as well.
