Oakmont’s hot hand
tops Placer
BOYS BASKETBALL
The Placer High boys basketball team couldn’t keep pace with a hot-shooting Oakmont squad in the first half Monday night. The Vikings shot 71 percent in the first half, running away from the host Hillmen to earn a 69-48 victory at Earl Crabbe Gymnasium. Placer (8-5), meanwhile, made just 6-of-18 field-goal attempts before the intermission but played evenly with Oakmont (9-3) in the second half. Senior forward Josh Klem led the Hillmen with 12 points, followed by senior center James Taber with 11. Taber also had a team-high seven rebounds. Senior guard Josh Newton and junior guard Koal Swisley added five points apiece for Placer. Placer’s junior varsity and freshman teams both lost.
