Placer High freshmen Michael Valdez and Tony Suverkropp each won their weight classes on Saturday at the Hiram Johnson Junior Varsity Tournament in Sacramento.

Valdez went 3-0 with one pin to place first at 125 pounds, while Suverkropp won at 140.

Finishing second in their weight classes were sophomore Brandin Rinaldo (171 pounds) and junior Alex Hostetler (112). Victor Brambila took third at 160 pounds, while fellow junior Carter Kendall was fourth at 130.

Senior Aaron Kendall placed fifth at 140 pounds in Hiram Johnson’s varsity tournament last Wednesday.

Placer will open Pioneer Valley League competition on Thursday with a dual at Lincoln.
