Auburn Police Sgt. Dale Hutchins walks outside of an Auburn home on Mikkelsen Drive where a 54-year-old man’s body was found Friday afternoon. Hutchins said police believe the man died of “natural causes.”

Police found a man’s body inside an Auburn home after his girlfriend called 911 Friday.

A little before noon on Friday, police and emergency medical personnel responded to a call of a body found in a home located on the 800 block of Mikkelsen Drive in Auburn.

Despite some neighbor reports that guns were drawn, Auburn Police Sgt. Dale Hutchins said that was not the case.

Hutchins, who was second to arrive on scene, said he stopped medics at the front door.

“The way the call came out I wanted to make sure if we had a decedent inside that we handled it correctly and if it was a crime scene, it wouldn’t be contaminated,” Hutchins said.

Hutchins said Friday afternoon that police are treating the case as a death investigation “until we determine if it’s criminal or natural.”

“However, we believe there is a strong possibility that the decedent died of natural causes,” Hutchins said.

Hutchins said the body found was that of a 54-year-old male. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Hutchins said that the man’s girlfriend called 911 after she found him in the home he rented.

The cause of death will be released following an autopsy by the Placer County Sheriff’s coroner.
