Foresthill motorcyclist dead after crash into parked trailer
By Gus Thomson, Journal Staff Writer

A motorcycle rider was killed after crashing late Tuesday into a parked trailer in Foresthill.

The California Highway Patrol reported today that the lone rider of a Yamaha off-road motorcycle was driving on Foresthill's Harrison Street near Soap Street when he failed to observe the parked trailer.

The driver had no headlight on the motorcycle and there were no streetlights on the road, the report stated.

Traveling at about 50 to 60 mph, the motorcycle hit the trailer head-on and the rider was sent off the bike into the trailer, the Highway Patrol said.

The rider, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered fatal injuries to his head, abdomen and legs. He died at the scene of the crash, the report said.

Identity of the driver was not immediately available from the Highway Patrol. He was described as a 28-year-old Foresthill resident.

The Highway Patrol said the trailer, which sustained major damage, was legally parked and had appropriate safety reflectors.

The accident was reported to authorities at 11:50 p.m.
