Falcons shine in PVL tuneup

The Colfax High softball team tuned up for Pioneer Valley League play with a 6-0 shutout of Wheatland Thursday in Colfax.
Randi Anderson tossed a complete-game two-hitter and the Falcons racked up nine hits in their second victory of the season.
Ashley Scott finished 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs while Meghan McCollum was 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
Hali Eckles added a double for Colfax (2-4). The Falcons led 1-0 before putting up three runs in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth.
The Falcons will open PVL play against Bear River on Tuesday.
Golden Sierra 3, Placer 1 at Garden Valley — Jordan Perry struck out eight in a complete game three-hitter for the Grizzlies as the Hillgals fell to 4-4 overall in their final nonleague game.
Jenna Knox allowed one earned run and struck out five without walking a batter in a complete game for Placer.
Knox, Kacy Romero and Brooke Stufflebean had hits for the Hillgals. Defensively, Shanna Heller made two stellar catches in the fifth inning, reaching over the fence to rob a Golden Sierra home run on one play.
Placer kicks off PVL play at Mesa Verde on Tuesday.
