By Journal Sports Staff

The Placer High girls soccer team settled for second place at the Foothill Mustang Kickoff Saturday, falling to St. Mary’s in the championship match.
The Hillgals lost captain Brooke Bendorf to an injury earlier in the day and fell to the high-powered Rams 4-0. Placer trailed just 1-0 at the half before St. Mary’s took advantage of the Hillgals’ aggressiveness and countered with three second-half strikes.
Bendorf went down in a tough 1-0 loss to Pleasant Valley of Chico earlier Saturday. The Vikings scored on a penalty kick. Defenders Karly Kenworthy, Stephanie Bonitata and Caitlin Letcher were outstanding for Placer (7-4-1).
On Friday, Placer beat River City 2-1 and routed Stagg 6-0. Against River City, Stephanie Bonitata had a goal and an assist while Emma Obray added a goal and Laura Nash tossed in an assist. Obray scored two goals against Stagg while Ashley Noder had two assists. Molly Barrett, Shandra Barrera and Bonitata had one goal apiece. Lianna Moneypenny, Taylor Rick, Kayla Lipsmeyer and Nash each had one assist.
The Placer JV team took third at the Foothill Mustang Kickoff, beating the host Mustangs 4-0 on Saturday.
Colfax 1, Davis 1 at Davis — The Falcons traveled to Davis Friday night and returned with its unbeaten record intact.
Colfax got a first-half goal from Kelly Johnson and maintained the lead until late in the second half when the Blue Devils’ Jenny Hawkins struck to tie the game. The 1-1 draw left Colfax with a 9-0-2 record on the year.
Senior Amber Cramer had an excellent game for the Falcons.
“Their coach said she’s the best goalkeeper they’ve seen all season,” Colfax coach Steve Robinson said of Cramer. “She had three incredible saves for us. She’s been playing great.”
Iona Lofrano’s corner kick set up Johnson’s goal and the Falcons got a lift from senior Kacy Capuchino up front.
