Bear River volleyball topples Folsom
By Journal Sports Staff

With help from its bench, the Bear River High girls volleyball team defeated Folsom High in four games Wednesday night at Lake of the Pines, 25-13, 25-27, 25-27, 25-18.

Sophomore Sara Schell had 17 kills to go along with four aces. Not far behind her was junior Katie Tomkiewicz with 13 kills, and team captain, senior Christie Nat with four kills and five blocks.

Bruins coach Matt McDonald said the key to Game 1 was a getting off to a great start, which the team also did in Game 2 before accumulating a few hitting errors.

“We had the lead, but it fizzled out,” he said. “We tried to do to much on offense.”

McDonald said the Bruins came back to win games 3 and 4 because of solid bench production.

“The bench really helped us out,” McDonald said. “They picked us up and gave us a spark.”

Bear River plays at tomorrow at Roseville.

The Bear River JV team also won, 25-12, 25-14.
