Hamill puts the hammer down at Fast Fridays season opener
Fast Fridays
Billy Hamill kicked off his first full season back in the U.S. after a successful speedway career in Europe with a big win at Fast Fridays. The reigning AMA Speedway Series champion, Hamill edged Auburn’s Bart Bast in the scratch main final while Charlie Venegas took third and Kenny Ingalls was fourth. Hamill took the lead on the first lap, holding his outside position the entire way despite Bast’s advances on the inside. Ben Essary made a splash in his adult Division I debut. The 16-year-old from Rio Oso held off veterans Venegas and Bast to take the handicap main event. In the Division II main, Russell Green raced to first place ahead of Rob Christian and Jim Lewis. Danny Faria took first in the Division III main. Ronny Woodsford took second and Clark Caravella was third. Cody Ciciarelli placed first in the Youth Division I main event, beating out Thomas Reich and Amber Felicio. Kendra Warren won the Youth Division II race and Anson Molonoy took the Youth Division III title.
