San Jose State University student Grant Fujii of Auburn suffered major injuries in an early-morning single-vehicle accident Saturday in Nevada City, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Fujii, a 23-year-old graphic design student who graduated from Placer High School in 2003, was being treated Monday at Sutter Roseville Medical Center.
The California Highway Patrol reported Fujii’s pickup left Highway 49 and drove up a 30-foot embankment before striking the concrete overcrossing at about 2 a.m. The accident occurred at the Sacramento Street overcrossing.
The truck rolled and flipped down the embankment, over the guardrail, and came to rest across both lanes of eastbound Highway 49, the CHP said.
The Toyota was found on its rooftop with Fujii, who was wearing his seatbelt, still inside, the highway patrol report said.
Kit Kerschner, a friend of the accident victim, said Fujii suffered a broken leg and arm, while sustaining multiple facial fractures.
