It was a beautiful evening and there is no way for me to express my gratitude for the wonderful people who showed up to support my candidacy for the Auburn City Council. It was a tremendous success. Merv Hall donated and decorated his hanger. Virgil Traynor and his crew (of which I am often a member) cooked a great tri-tip dinner. Bud Richardson did a great job organizing the event. There many current and past elected officials as well as prominent business people present. It was a very humbling event for me. If fortunate enough to be elected I promise to work hard with the current City Council members to be the best public servant I can be and work for the betterment of our wonderful community.
Thank you to so many people.
Bill Kirby

Give us (the People) a reason to vote for you. This fundraiser with "prominent business people".
Can you say the word Republican stooge. There is no doubt that you have already sold your votes and compromised your agenda.
I am sorry you seem to have formed this opinion without talking with me. Nothing could be further from the truth. This is a non-partisan position and there was a strong sprinkling of people from all over the political spectrum supporting me. Perhaps several reasons to vote for me are my long history of public service and my availability. I would look forward to discussing any issues you would like personally (my home number is 8852124) and then if you still feel this way at least your comments would have more credibility or perhaps I would change your mind. In any case, I would welcome the opportunity to talk with you
Bill Kirby
Bill, I formed my opinion from reading your blogs. My main objections is your close relationship to prominent business people. You speak of nonpartisanship yet you fail to name the current and past elected officials. A public servant should be free of obligations to special interests in order to truly represent the people. We are more than just business owners.
Besides being rich what are your qualifications? Do you have a degree in poly-sci or something that relates to governing? What have you done for your community? What do you mean by work for the betterment of...? Why are you running for this office? What is your vision for the future of Auburn?
I know Merv. He is a great guy, we were neighbors. He is a businessman and I respect him.
He is beholden to no one.
Thanks for your phone number, as the election draws near I may call, but I wouldn't count on it.
We have been burned too often by incompetents and partisanship and special obligations by some members in the City Counsel. They are prone to knee jerk reactions and I think you should show us your colors. We don't need a rubber stamp council.
My supporters are contained in my Auburn Journal ad and cover the political spectrum. My involvement in Rotary and the "Flying Doctors" is also something many people know about. I am certainly not rich and have been involved on many levels for years with local government. Again, I would be happy to discuss anything with you over the phone most evenings at 8852124.
Bill
Flying Doctors is indeed a fine organization. You are truly a humanitarian.
I have to comment to chunga, that Bill's daughter is a public school teacher. I work in Rancho and have been teaching overflow sixth grade. My kids come from very hard backgrounds and are in desperate need of support. Sometimes they need school supplies, other times they need a hug, structure, and role models. For some of my kids it's an uphill battle to sway them from gangs and drugs. My job is far from glamorous, but my dad could not be more supportive or proud. He has helped my kids in numerous ways from helping pay for our Sly Park science camp, to laminating posters. Working with the population I do, it is evident that there is a lot of injustice in our world. My father has giving me the tools I need to question the powers that be who work against my students. I have spent many an evening phone banking, or writing letters to our local leaders trying to invoke change. My dad has inspired me to always try and do better. He is far from arrogant, as you seem to imply.
You are correct in saying that Bill Kirby, as a small business owner himself, wants to work with Auburn's business', but that certainly does not make him a "Repubican Stooge." If anything, it's keeping Auburn a town which supports local business rather than being overrun by the Walmarts of the world. And, I must add that he makes much less than I feel a doctor, with as much training as he has had, should make. He makes much less than a decade ago. This tells me that our health care system is a mess. So, you are wrong in calling him rich.
Bill Kirby is not a pretentious man. If I could pick one word to describe him, it would be the ancient Greek word of Sophrosene, which means balance. My father has achieved balance in working with people from all backgrounds. He has learned from them. Sometimes the ones who teach us the most, are the people with the least, and he understands this.
I think there are people in the world who make up their minds, and they never change. You may be one of these people. However, I had to attempt to show you a side of my father which you may not know.
