Grilled opah, left, and scallops, bought fresh from the Little Fish Company. A little seasoning, a few minutes on the grill (opah) and in the pan (scallops) and we had a wonderful dinner on our hands.

Oh, how I wish I were sticking around for the Labor Day weekend. Almost.
While I’m quite excited for a San Francisco getaway, an e-mail that just popped up in my inbox makes me wish I had time to do some at-home grilling.
I’m on the weekly e-mail list for the Little Fish Company, and this weekend’s specials include wild Alaskan silver salmon, fresh wild-caught colossal white prawns and fresh opah — yum, yum and yum.
Brand and Laura Little sell fresh-caught fish at area farmers’ markets, including Saturdays at the parking lot across from Auburn Courthouse, at the corner of Auburn Folsom Road and Lincoln Way. They also work the Sunday morning market in Sacramento, where I normally pick up my fish.
Everything I’ve bought from them has been fresh and fantastic, and receiving their weekly e-mail of fresh fish possibilities has inspired me to try cooking fish I’ve, in some cases, not even eaten before.
My most recent purchase was opah, which is a heartier, grill-friendly fish, and scallops. We seasoned the opah with some fresh-ground salt and pepper and just a little bit of lemon juice, letting it cook for just a few minutes until grill marks darkened the outside and the inside was a nice light pink. It was wonderful.
The scallops, which were enormous, also turned out well after a few minutes in the pan with fresh garlic and butter.
It’s been a few days, but just thinking about that dinner makes it hard not to e-mail an order for this weekend, even though I won’t be around to pick it up.

Thank you for sharing. I like Salmon, and I was told that wild Salmon is healthier. Glad to hear they sell them. You know more about food than me, is that true that wild salmon is healthier?
