Rocklin police have dropped the investigation into an alleged abduction of a 10-year-old girl from a Rocklin park.
The girl told police after an extensive investigation that she fabricated the whole story, police said.
Shortly after 4 p.m. on July 21, the alleged victim was playing at the Johnson Springview Park when she was approached by a man described as a black male in his late teens, thin, with spiked hair or dreadlocks.
The man allegedly told the girl that he knew her parents and that she should come with him.
The girl said she stepped away from the man and as she did he attempted to grab her, police said.
The girl then ran to her grandmother who was nearby and the two ran quickly to the Rocklin library in the park and notified an employee who then called police.
“Police officers conducted an immediate search of the area but did not locate the suspect,” said Lt. Lon Milka of the Rocklin Police Department.
Milka said there has never been an attempted abduction in that park before
During the course of this investigation a composite sketch was done using the 10-year-old girl’s description of the suspect.
Upon further investigation, the 10-year-old girl told Rocklin Police Detectives she was not the victim of an attempted kidnapping, that she was never contacted by a stranger and that she fabricated the entire incident.
Detectives have closed the investigation, police said.
