“We have to promote ourselves, because no one else will.” This quote we hear quite often from our editor Deric Rothe. He couldn’t be more right. In a way this is our newspaper. Well, sort of. We don’t own the Auburn Journal, and advertising pays the bills, but the content we produce is ours and we are responsible to tell people about our product and help educate people on our new web site. By now many of you have seen the web site progress forward at a steady pace.

One thing we tried new this week was posting a video car review for our Gold Country Motoring section. Every Friday, motoring editor Andrew DiLuccia gets to drive a new car for review. Not a bad a perk for being a journalist. Some cars are your basic van or sedan, while others are awesome, making you say, “wow.” The Corvette was one of those and the Cadillac. Both are very nice automobiles.

Recently DiLuccia reviewed the all-new Ford Flex Crossover. When I heard he was picking it up I thought it would be a great opportunity to do a video of the ride and post it with his story. If you haven’t seen the video, I recommend checking it out in the Motoring section. It gives a new aspect of a car review rather than just seeing the photos and reading the story. All the dialogue was done on the fly. No skit, no preparation and really no idea how it would turn out in the end.

For our first video car review it turned out great. I’ve known Andrew for five years and I think he would agree he’s not really a ham for the camera. In fact he avoids it. It’s not easy talking with a video camera in your face while trying to make sense of what you’re saying. Near the end of the session DiLuccia really got into the concept. In fact the part with him talking in the rearview mirror at the end was his idea. With all the bells and whistles in the vehicle, it helped with the visual elements in the video as well.

Not sure if we will do a video for every car we review but it has opened the doors to yet another way of presenting our product. So I say again, check out the car review video in the Motoring section at auburnjournal.com.
