It’s one of those good news-bad news type of situations.

Start with the good news. The third season of “Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD” begins Sept. 22nd, with one Roseville venue (Roseville 14 on Eureka Road), and four viewing choices in Sacramento (Ethan Way’s Sacramento Stadium 14, Sacramento Downtown Plaza 7, Natomas Marketplace on Truxel Road and Garfield Avenue’s Greenback Lane 16.

The bad news is no showing in Auburn yet.

For Auburn-area residents interested in bringing performances to the local multiplex, it’s a possibility in the future. Regal Entertainment Group, which owns the Nevada Street theater in Auburn, is on the list of participating theaters that are showing the Met performances this year

The latest from National CineMedia, which has partnered with the Met for showing the live performances, is that overwhelming consumer demand has resulted in a 30 percent expansion in theaters over last season.

Here’s some more information for people interested in making the journey down the hill to Roseville or points beyond to take in some or all of this year’s 11 offerings. That’s up from eight last season.

The first performance celebrates the 125th anniversary of the Met and stars soprano Renee Fleming in fully staged performances of scenes from Verdi’s “La Traviata,” Massenet’s “Manon” and Richard Strauss’s “Capriccio”

The new series features live transmissions of five new productions, including a Met premiere. There will also be an evening encore presentation the second Wednesday after the live performance.

The rest of the performances are: “Salome (Oct. 11); “Doctor Atomic” (Nov. 8); “La Damnation de Faust” (Nov. 22); “Thais” (Dec. 20); “La Rondine” (Jan. 10); “Orfeo Ed Eruidice” (Jan. 24); “Lucia di Lammermoor” Feb. 7; “Madama Butterfly” (March 7); “La Sonnambula” (March 21); and, “La Centerentola” May 9.

Tickets are already on sale through the FathomEvents.com site and prices vary.
