Mayor Storey’s name, along with Placer County Supervisor Robert Weygandt, Peter Hill, Kathy Lund, Scott Yuill, School Superintendent Kevin Brown, School Board President Steve Paul and many others, were attached to Rocklin’s “Yes on Measure H” flyers guaranteeing “that the number of trees in Clover Valley will not be reduced”. How do they explain this mitigation which was never mentioned in the Draft or Final Environmental Impact Reports (DEIR/FEIR)?
There is NO LEGAL REQUIREMENT mentioned anywhere that the removed trees will be replaced 100%. Only a promise from the developer, and, even with this promise, we would still not know how many of the removed trees would be counted in the 100% or what kind of trees they will be replaced with. Taking out a 24” diameter, 75-100 year old Heritage Oaks, and replacing it with a Crepe Myrtle, doesn’t seem like a reasonable mitigation. In the Draft/Final Environmental Impact Reports, many trees are not counted because they are being removed, not for homes, but for the construction of roads. Somehow that makes them less important to wildlife and CO2 control than the ones removed for homes. I fail to see the logic in not counting all the destroyed trees because without the homes, there would be no need to remove the trees for the roads.
Again, the words from the mouths of our political “leaders” were less than truthful and and were used to provided erroneous or misleading information to Rocklin voters during the Measure H (Clover Valley) Referendum. To me this seems like another violation of the Rocklin City’s Code of Ethics.
Look for Parts 4 & 5 coming soon.

They lied about everything they could think of. They said if Prop H failed the number of homes could go back to 900+. This was a bold faced lie. In the last 24 hours of the election (too late to counter with the truth) they said all Rocklin residents could get sued by the developers and owe $20k or some such nonsense. I personally knew some elderly folks who were truly scared with this claim. The names mentioned above (we forgot Magnuson) are despicable people who depended on H passing as they were in too deep with the developers at that point. Lying, scare tactics, vandalism, bringing in out-of-state goons to cause disruption at the opposition's booths...nothing is beneath the politiians and the developers they are beholden to. These are slick and frightening politicians.
Have you ever heard the joke "How do you know when a politician is lying? His mouth is moving. Well, it's not a joke, it is the truth.
Let's not forget Weygandt, Gaines, Holmes, and others who said to some that they were open to saving Clover Valley, but, they "didn't want to get involved in local politics." Weygandt changed his tune immediately with Measure H, signing on probably as payback to the tribe's donating well over $100,000 to his campaign (pulbic record). Holmes, to his credit, stayed out of Measure H, but now is mired in local politics with his endorsements (so much for "staying out" of it).
But the wonder of it all is that they ALL stayed out of opposing the casino expansion--the 24-story monolith that will be a blight on the rolling west Placer grasslands! Not one spoke up to at least ask for something less obtrusive and obnoxious to their region and their incorporated areas. Why? Because most likely the tribe's subtle message was, "If you don't oppose our "expansion," we will support your Clover Valley development," or your "Regional University" or your "campaign." Everything is planned in back room deals with every one in on the "take" but citizens. Each politician has a payback obligation.
Placer County epitomizes the good ol' boy system. This is the reason we MUST have term limits and why Rocklin incumbents must be voted out--the developers have wooed them to them enough that they no longer look at what is good for the community or citizens, but rather what is good for profiterring developers.
In Rocklin, vote for Angela Torrens only, but if you must vote for two, vote also for David Nelson. Whatever you do, cast NO vote for any incumbent. (There is no law that says you have to vote for more than one.)
In Loomis, cast one vote only: Gary Liss Do NOT vote for an incumbent in either case.
(Timmy, pointing north) "Grandpa...is that the Sutter Buttes?" Grandpa: "No, Timmy, that's our new casino. We can't see the Buttes anymore."
