Traffic everywhere in Rocklin!
Rocklin's traffic future...YUK!
|
Sometimes cartoons tell a better story than words. This cartoon shows a true-to-life rendering of what Rocklin's traffic flow will be with the current plans of the current city council.
Vote out the incumbents this November.
Vote IN people with strong ideas and plans for the best possible Rocklin; vote for Angela Torrens and David Nelson.

Get real. A "true-to-life rendering". Not exactly. I don;t remember a clover leaf being proposed. Do you have some information we don't or are you just making things up. The vote on measure H said it would be a two lane road.
When you moved here you brought your traffic that people before you didn't want. That happens each time new people arrive and has been going on for many years.
Do Angela and David advocate stopping all growth or maybe just ignoring the vote of the people on clover valley?
You're right, there is no clover leaf intersection, but the last Environmental Impact Report the City put out still had an increase of 14,000 vehciles on Park Drive, and who know how many more in the rest of Rocklin. It will eventually open up a short cut from 65 to 80 through a Senior Community who really don't need a huge increase in traffic. Loomis isn't too happy about the increase in traffic they will see caused by Valley View Parkway. They are , in fact, suing Rocklin over that very issue.
I don't think David and Angela are totally against growth, but they feel, at this point, it must be better controlled growth.
PS Not everything you saw or read from the Yes on H side was accurate. There were some serious distortions of the truth. See earlier blogs label "The Truth Doesn't Always Come From the Mouths of Politicians". There was enough misinformation, and scare tactics, to sway the 450 votes that Yes won by.
According to the elections office website, the clover valley vote was passed by 1338, 9841 yes (54% ) to 8503 (46%).
Where did the 450 come from. Is that one of the serious distortions you were talking about?
Okay I missed by a few votes. The number I had seen several times was 883 and for that a swing in votes of 450 would have changed the election. If you consider that the Yes folks spent 10 times as much money( about $750,000), interfered with signature gathering, and flat out made several totally inaccurate statements in the flyers that scared and confused the voters, it was a pretty close race. The best news is that, through the efforts of the Save Clover Valley group, the approved development is MUCH better than the original plan. Through the efforts of the Save Clover Valley group, the development was delayed long enough so that the Auburn Tribe could get involved. Without this delay, the Valley would have been developed with over 700 homes before the Tribe's casino money was available. I would have preferred to save the whole valley, but the final plan, with half the homes, and the valley floor preserved(allegedly), is not too bad a compromise.
PS The developer still doesn't have the necessary approvals from the Corps of Engineers and there are 2 law suit sgoing. Stay tuned.
PPS It took the City and developer 3 tries to get an Environmental Impact Report that was close to acceptable, and their Cultural Study is still called "inadequate" by the CA Office of Historic Preservation.
So I missed it by a few votes?? You seem to be very knowledgeable about clover valley and the development, but if you can't even give the right vote count, how are we expected to trust everything else you say. I simiply looked on the county web page and found the correct information in about 30 seconds.
By the way, saying the vote was close because if a certain number of people changed their vote isn't exactly the way most election results are described. The vote seems clear to me, it was passed by a fairly large number.
Also, I think you and the others who keep harping on clover valley are missing a vital point: most people don't care. They voted, there was a decision and they are going on with their lives. The thing is DOA anyway. Nobody can finance that white elephant and won't be able to for many years to come, if ever. Don't expect any construction soon, which also means there will be no highway going past your house and no LA traffic jam on Park Drive or whereever it was going to be.
As they say, most elections are bought these days and this one was no exception.
What you are really saying is that you think the voters are stupid and didn't see through all the nonsense that both sides sent out. I choose to think the voters are smarter than you think.
What I am saying is that when you spend 8 to 10 times the money on an election, you're probably going to win. When you blitze the area in the last week before the election with mailers, flyers, "robo" calls, which include much inaccurate information, the electorate can become scared or confused, which it did.
There is no legal guarantee that all the trees will be replaced.
If they lost, the owners weren't "allowed build twice as many homes". They had City approval for only 558 homes and no Corps of Engineering approvals at all. Still don't have COE approvals.
They presented no proof that the No folks vandalized their signs. I went to the Police department twice and asked for a police report. None was found.
The law suit in Half Moon Bay had no resemblance to the Clover Valley/Rocklin situation in terms of being grounds for a multi-millions dollar suit.
Nobody on the NO said said a No vote would stop the development forever. The referedum would only delay it a year.
Their own Environmental Impact Report said there would be an increase of 14,000 vehicle on Park Drive.
In all of these cases, the politicians and developers were less than truthful in their statements to the public. There is a Rocklin City Code of Ethics which I think was violated numerous times during this period by City leaders.
In MarchI wrote a letter to Mayor Storey and the rest of the Council telling them I felt that they have violated the Code of Ethics, and have so far, not received an answer. I guess they feel they don't have to answer to the public.
You guys need to get a hobby!
I have a hobby. It trying to make sure my kids and grand kids have some kind or liveable world to live in. My motto is an old Lokota Sioux saying.
"You do not inherit the Earth from you ancestors
You borrow it from your children"
and we've been borrowing very heavily. I really worry about what kind of life they will have if things continue the way they are now.
HI! George....
Are you feeling better today. A little more civil?
Did you read today's BEE? The Clover Valley folks won a major, state award.
Not bragging...but, hey, sometimes a passionate citizen cause is the right cause and causes the right responses from the electorate and, ultimately, professionals in the public arena.
By the way: What do YOU do with your spare time? I hope something that enriches people, communities and the world.
