Loryll Nicolaisen: Between Bites
Between Bites: Oh, the sweet taste of victory
I, second from left, finished the Cowtown Half Marathon on Sunday, along with, from left, my boyfriend Chris, fellow Journal staffer Jenifer Gee and her sister Stefanie. Running 13.1 miles means we're entitled to eat pretty much whatever we want -- we must have burned at least a million calories!

I am in the middle of my food honeymoon.

After weeks of training, I successfully completed the CoreLogic Cowtown Half Marathon Sunday morning in Sacramento’s Land Park neighborhood. My running partners in crime were my boyfriend Chris, fellow Journal staffer Jenifer Gee and her sister Stefanie.

The best part about running distances like this, other than a receiving a goofy cowbell as a finisher’s medal, is the food honeymoon. I learned this term from my friend Molly, a crazy endurance runner whose successes include the Western States 100-miler. Basically, I burned a ton of calories and therefore can now eat whatever I want. The honeymoon started with a post-run lunch — a grilled combination of pepper turkey, dill havarti and whole-grain Dijon on wheat bread, and a nice, cold Pacifico. Chris and I celebrated our success with dinner Sunday night at Lucca, a favorite Midtown Sacramento restaurant, where I put a serious dent in a rich, delicious plate of prawns and linguine swimming in a lobster cream sauce, topped with fat shavings of Manchego cheese.

To continue the celebration, Jenifer and I have a lunch date planned — our reward comes in the form of Taco Tree’s super nachos. We’ve definitely earned those gooey, cheesy chips.

Here’s my question to local runners, or anyone who enjoys a great meal after exerting themselves during a race, game or other athletic exploit: what’s on your food honeymoon menu?
