SAVE CLOVER VALLEY ORGANIZATION RECEIVES 2008 GOVERNOR’S HISTORIC PRESERVATION AWARD

Save Clover Valley Organization is honored to announce it is a recipient of the esteemed Governor’s Historic Preservation Award for 2008.

On behalf of Governor Schwarzenegger, a notice from the state’s Office of Historic Preservation recognized the outstanding achievement of the grassroots organization, Save Clover Valley, in “the field of historic preservation” and “exceptional historic preservation efforts on behalf of California’s cultural heritage.” This prestigious award is the only official preservation award presented by the State of California to worthy recipients in recognition of outstanding achievements in the field of history preservation.

Angela Torrens, Rocklin resident, member of the Save Clover Valley organization, and candidate for Rocklin City council said, “This is a wonderful award for all Rocklin and Save Clover Valley supporters. It is a testament to grass roots organizations and the influence they can have on their community and local government.”

Meagan O’Deegan congratulated the Save Clover Valley group, “The work to preserve our region’s past is never done. As a member of the Rocklin Historical Society, I know how tough it is to preserve our diminishing historical resources.”

For the past 10 years Save Clover Valley has worked to make Clover Valley a historic nature preserve. Through community outreach they have helped to educate and inform the people of the region about the 5,000 years of pre-history within this valley; history so important that all of this valley’s 622 acres is in California’s Historic Register and is eligible to the National Register of Historic Places.

Save Clover Valley and its supporters have been instrumental in reducing the number homes with in this valley from 933 to 404. This grass roots organization has challenged the City of Rocklin through CEQA, the Referendum Process, and Litigation to prevent the proposed development within this valley. Currently, Save Clover Valley is actively pursuing its efforts to preserve all the historical and pre-historical resources as well as the diverse ecological elements found in the valley.

The Save Clover Valley Organization will receive the award in a ceremony on November 21, 2008 in at the State Capital.
