Auburn Journal photography by Ben Furtado.

Book author and environmental resource specialist for California State Parks, Gene Lorance, holds two ancient fossils from a glyptodont in his hand which he discovered at Auburn's historic Hawver House last week. The top fossil of the giant-sized ancestor of today's armadillo is part of the shell while the bottom fossil would be a piece of armor from its head.
