4th Annual Jibassic Pro Invitational at Boreal
Auburn Journal photography by Eric J. Gourley

Skiers and snowboarders of all ages dusted off their gear Saturday and headed to Boreal for the resort’s 4th Annual Jibassic Pro Invitational. Boreal created a public jib park with several smaller terrain features for snow enthusiasts eager to get an early taste of winter. Sponsored by Auburn’s Boards ‘N Motion, the park was built on snow generated by the resort’s new snowmaking system. When the sun set behind the mountains, hundreds in attendance turned their attention to a dozen professional skiers and snowboarders vying for cash prizes on a custom built Snowboard Magazine Staircase and other terrain park features constructed near the lodge. While Boreal is historically one of the first Interstate 80 resorts to open each winter, Northstar-at-Tahoe and Squaw Valley USA have already announced a scheduled opening day of Nov. 22, with Alpine Meadows slated to follow on Nov. 26, weather-permitting.
