Auburn Crash Kills Motorcycle RiderBy: Gus Thomson, Reporter/Columnist
A motorcycle rider was killed early Sunday in a North Auburn crash near the Auburn Municipal Airport.
The crash was reported a minute after midnight on Old Airport Road, south of Col. Bud Anderson Road.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the rider of the 1972 Honda 175 motorcycle involved in the single-vehicle crash made an unsafe turning movement, which caused the left side of his motorcycle to strike the road. The rider - identified by the Highway Patrol as a 59-year-old Auburn man - was pitched from the motorcycle and landed on the road.
The rider was pronounced dead at the scene, the Highway Patrol said.
The Journal will report more details - including the name of the motorcycle rider - when they become available. As of Tuesday afternoon, the Sheriff's Office was attempting to locate the crash victim's next of kin before releasing a name.
The Highway Patrol report said that the man was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
