UPDATE: 8:45 A.M. THURSDAY AUG. 2: PILOT HILL FIRE FORWARD PROGRESS STOPPED
Cal Fire is reporting this morning that it has halted forward progress on a fire that broke out Wednesday afternoon in the Pilot Hill area of El Dorado County.
As of 8:20 a.m., 66 acres of grass and oak woodland off Omega Lane and Alpha Circle, west of Pilot Hill and about 4 miles south of Auburn had been burned over. One structure was destroyed and two were damaged, Cal Fire reported.
Evacuations remained in place for Pilot View Drive north of Black Dog Court, Pilot View Drive, including all cross streets, Alpha Circle and Omega Lane.
"Fire crews have made great progress and forward progress has stopped," a Cal Fire spokesman reported.
Dubbed the Omega Fire, the blaze started at 2:40 p.m..
ORIGINAL REPORT: FIRE ERUPTS NEAR PILOT HILL
Firefighters are battling a fire off Omega Lane and Alpha Circle, west of Pilot Hill in El Dorado County.
The fire was reported to be at 25 acres by 3:30 p.m. and a large smoke plume traveling west from what is being called the Omega Fire by Cal Fire could be seen traveling north from vantage points in Auburn like the Auburn Overlook Park.
Omega Lane is located 4 miles south of Auburn and 1.5 miles from the American River canyon.
