Two fires erupted over the weekend but were quickly entigushed by emergency personnel.

An empty office building behind the now-closed JimBoy’s restaurant near Highway 49 and Cottage Drive in North Auburn became fully engulfed in flames around 3:40 a.m. Monday, Mary Eldridge, spokeswoman for Cal Fire said. Crews were able to quickly contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby businesses and residences. Placer Sheriff’s deputies were on hand to alert neighbors to evacuate. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The second fire took place at the Weimar Institute. A call came in 6:12 p.m. Sunday to report the grass fire. The blaze erupted in the agricultural area of the institute, adjacent to several beehives, Kirk Kushen, fire chief for Placer Hills Fire said.

Engines 84 and 86 responded from Placer Hills. Engine 41 from Newcastle, Tahoe National Forest and Cal Fire also assisted. A precautionary evacuation ensued for nearby residents. The fire burned just under 2 acres. The cause is under investigation.
