An Auburn man is facing charges connected with a burglary at Foresthill’s community pool

And the Placer County Sheriff’s Office says the key evidence in the arrest of 46-year-old James Smith came from security video.

Foresthill resident deputies investigated a vandalism and burglary complaint Friday at both the Foresthill Memorial Hall and nearby Community Pool.

A pool employee came into work and noticed that doors and locks were damaged. She called the Placer County Sheriff’s Office to report the damage to the doors and an investigation found that cash was missing, as well as lifeguard supplies, snacks, and an electronic speaker.

When deputies reviewed the surveillance footage, they saw a man walking away with stolen items. They recognized the suspect as Smith, the Sheriff’s office said.

Deputies started searching for Smith and found him the same day in Foresthill. Smith was arrested on suspicion of burglary and concealing stolen property. He was booked at the Placer County Jail in North Auburn, with bail set at $73,000. Jail records show Smith has since been released.

All of the stolen property was recovered and returned, the Sheriff’s Office said.
