Medicare operates on around a 3 percent overhead versus a 26 percent overhead for insurance companies. This is because in a for-profit health care system, tens of millions of dollars go to CEO salaries and shareholder payouts every year. What could be more practical and pragmatic than eliminating the bloated administrative expenses of the middleman insurance companies, and paying for health care directly through a unified fund, the way Medicare is, only for ALL people in California?
Business Alliance for a Healthy California co-director Dan Geiger will answer questions about this on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the General Gomez Arts and Event Center, 808 Lincoln Way, Auburn. Free. For more information visit auburndemocrats.com
