Meet Your Deputy

Meet Deputy Melissa Adams

-A +A

Age: 25
Residence: Auburn

Why did you want to join the Placer County Sheriff team?
When I was 5, my grandfather (a retired police officer) wrote me a ticket for eating too much candy. It was from that moment I knew I wanted to be in law enforcement. Growing up in Placer County, and listening to the stories of my step-father (retired PCSO detective), I knew I wanted to be part of the family that is the Placer County Sheriff’s Office. Placer County is part of who I am; it’s an honor to work for the community that’s had such a large impact in my life.

What do you like most about your job?
My favorite aspect of being a deputy sheriff is the variety; every day brings new challenges, experiences and opportunity.

What do you like least or find most challenging about your job?
Unfortunately, most people call us when they’re experiencing one of the worst days of their lives. My least favorite aspect of being a deputy sheriff is seeing people suffer mental, emotional or physical trauma.

What advice would you give to those who may be considering a job in law enforcement?
Law enforcement is not a 40 hours a week job, it’s a passion that lives inside of you 24/7. You have to be fully committed because that’s what the brothers/sisters beside you and the family/ community behind you expects.

Where would you like to see yourself in 10 years?
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office has many special teams/programs. My main areas of interest include Search and Rescue Coordination and School Resource. My 10-year plan doesn’t include a specific position or assignment rather, I want to learn and grow every step of the way.
