HEART on Safari dinner/auction helps in Africa’s struggles

From left, Lisa Van Sistine, Vickie Winkler and Matt Van Sistine toured a replica of an African village in the Kibera Slum Saturday night. Many of the HEART projects were on display in the village. Much of HEART’s work takes place in the Kibera Slum which is the largest urban slum in Africa. Winkler is the founder of HEART and president of the HEART executive board. The Van Sistines have both made journeys to Kenya as part of the HEART team.

The Freedom for Girls programs provides a year’s supply of feminine products for a $10 donation. These products are important for young African girls to be able to attend school on a regular basis. “Without this, the girls can’t go to school,” Verhagen said.
