Sunday Aug 03 2008 comments Relay for Life By: Ashley Baer, Auburn Journal -A +A Bryan Durr and Michelle Cline both suited up as part of the Marrow Menders team at this year?s Relay for Life in Auburn. Karen Kirkman pulled 7-year-old Colleen Francis and 8-year-old Devin Dorr during their 5-mile walk around the track. The trio was participating in the annual Relay for Life event as part of the team Alyssa?s Walking Angels. Relay for Life participants bonded during the 24-hour event held at Placer High School?s track. White bags lined the track at Placer High School for the annual Relay for Life event. The bags were lit at the Luminaria Ceremony Saturday evening. Dustin Mullenix, 15, of Foresthill, beat the heat Saturday afternoon as a Relay for Life volunteer cooled him down. Mullenix was part of the Marrow Menders team, which walked to raise awareness of the bone marrow registry. Kim Lightfoot, Relay for Live event chair Danny Outlaw, 17, said it was his first time participating in the 24-hour Relay for Life event. He said relatives with cancer inspired him to take part in the annual fundraiser. Breast cancer survivor Jackie Dow holds up a shirt she had made that states, ?Flat is beautiful.? Dow requested the shirt after she had both breasts removed because of her cancer treatments.
