Exactly 100 die-hard chicken sandwich lovers stood in line from early Wednesday morning to 6 a.m. Thursday in order to win a year’s supply of Chick-fil-A food.

The “First 100” giveaway promotion by Chick-fil-A was meant to usher in the grand opening of it new Granite Bay restuaruant at 4040 Douglas Blvd., in the same shopping center as the Walmart Neighborhood Market.

Representatives for Chick-fil-A said the “First 100” giveaway began in Arizona in 2003 and has expanded into a major tradition for christening all dining houses. Each man and woman who stood in line in Granite Bay will reportedly win $29,000 worth of Chick-fil-A food to be eaten in 2013. Overall, the “First 100” promotion has so far led the company to give away $18 million in chicken sandwiches, waffle potato fries and soda among 700 grand openings. Chick-fil-A spokeswoman Brenda Morrow said the company still has more than 100 more grand openings planned in the near future.
