Center’s Cougars kept their Pioneer Valley League boys basketball record unblemished Thursday night with an emphatic, 81-60, blitzing of outmanned Bear River.
The visitors from Antelope came into the Bruins’ Jack McCrory Gymnasium and jumped off to a quick 16-2 lead over the game’s first five minutes and never looked back.
Center, 15-5 overall and 4-0 in the PVL, built a 19-7 first-quarter lead into a 42-27 bulge by halftime and extended it to 65-40 at the end of three quarters.
A balanced offensive attack led Center as Michael Wortham tallied 19 points, Elias Bonds scored 16 and Emari White added 13. Bear River, which suited up just seven players, was paced by Adam Malik with 18 points and Caleb Lowry and Brekyn Vasquez with 14 each.
Bear River, which slips back to 2-2 in PVL games and 11-9 overall, will host Lindhurst Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Lindhurst 57, Colfax 52
The Falcons’ PVL woes continued with the tough road loss to the Blazers. The Falcons led 25-24 at halftime but lost the lead in the third stanza when the Blazers out-pointed the visitors, 16-12.
Jake Green led Colfax (6-12, 0-4) with 18 points. Alex Weir followed with 13 and Mike La Vigne added nine. The Falcons play at Foothill Wednesday. In other PVL action on Thursday, Marysville tripped up Foothill, 61-51.
In the JV game, Benton Stocks connected for 22 points to help Colfax ease past the Blazers, 58-29. Jacob Krakover added nine and Caden Tomlin six for the Falcons.
