Lady Falcons best Hillmen in overtime - again
AUBURN - The Colfax Lady Falcons’ girls basketball team snapped a two-game Pioneer Valley League losing skid in a big way here Tuesday night.
Basically playing for their PVL lives to stay afloat in the league race, the Lady Falcons rose up and squeezed out a thrilling 48-47 overtime win over Placer.
The big victory for Colfax – its second in overtime over Placer this season – ups Colfax’s PVL record to 4-2 and its overall mark 19-3. The victory also knocked the Hillmen out of a share of the PVL lead with Foothill.
Foothill defeated Bear River, 67-26,on Tuesday night to raise its league leading record to 5-1. Colfax and Placer, both at 4-2, trail the Mustangs by a game, each with contests still remaining with the league leaders.
For Colfax, Annaliese Ballowe hit a big trey to open the extra stanza, received another key bucket from Caleigh McClenahan and two free tosses by Grace Bliss to cement the win.
Bliss had a monster game for the winners as she poured in 27 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, came up with seven steals and had two blocks. McClenahan followed with nine points while Annaliese Ballowe – who had a huge overtime trey - followed with six.
Colfax’s scoring was rounded out by Kendall Rice – who had a big fourth quarter trey - and Jazzy Owens with three points each.
Placer ( 14-8, 4-2) was led by Stephanie Knoble with 15 points and Maddie Mohard with 13.
Colfax hosts Center Thursday at 7 p.m. while Placer entertains Bear River. In other PVL action on Thursday, Center defeated Lincoln, 47-46.
