Showing their versatility and depth, Del Oro’s boys and girls varsity track teams captured respective first place finishes at Thursday’s Sierra Foothill League championship meet held at Folsom High.

Making it a clean sweep for the Golden Eagles, both the boys and girls frosh-soph teams were also victorious in their divisions.

"It's the first time in school history that we've been able to sweep all four divisions," said Del Oro coach Dustin Fee. "The kids really competed totday."

In the boys varsity ranks, Del Oro followed double winner Jon Small and strength in the hurdles and field events to score 144 points to outdistance second place Woodcreek (126).

Another big surprise in Del Oro's boys victory was the team's 4x100 relay squad of Small, Will Hardin, freshman Jack Williams and Jabob Bowler combining efforts to run a winning 44.36 time.

"Getting eight points there was abig plus for us,' said Fee. "We really haven't done too much in that event all season but the guys battled."

Del Oro also received key points from Kyler Ostenberg, a senior who was fourth in the 800 meters, and sophomore Spencer Farman who placed sixth.

"In a meet like this, those little points all add up.," Fee added.

For Del Oro’s girls, sophomore Cathilyn McIntosh captured the 200, 400 and 800 meters and Amanda Baker swept the hurdles as the Golden Eagles tallied 152 points to finish ahead of second place Woodcreek (106). Tasha Brechtel also won the high jump and Meagan Leaman won the triple jump.

In the frosh-soph boys competition, Del Oro scored 150 points to outscore Granite Bay (102.75) while the Del Oro frosh-soph girls needed 124 points to stay ahead of Granite Bay (111).

Top boys frosh-soph efforts came from Trenton Macktinger who won the 800 (2:05.58), Brayden McLaughlin who took the 1600 (4:46.82) and Spencer Blatter who won the 300 hurdles (42.95).

For the Del Oro frosh-soph girls, Carissa Negri won the shot put, Christina Huckaby the 200 meters, and Megan Wolfe-Polgar grabbed the 1600 and 3200 meter races.
