An AmeriCorps presence is back with the Placer Land Trust. AmeriCorps volunteer Jeff Ward, a recent environmental studies graduate at Florida Gulf Coast University, will serve as the Auburn-based land preservation organization's stewardship assistant. It's the second year AmeriCorps, a network of local and national service programs, has sent an intern to the land trust. Ward was one of 27 interns selected by AmeriCorps to assist with environmental education, habitat restoration and ecological monitoring in the Sierra region. I'm excited to work with Placer Land Trust this next year to help it reach land conservation and restoration goals, Ward said. This internship is the perfect opportunity to learn the ins and outs of working for a local land trust and help me along my career path. The land trust is a non-profit organization that has preserved almost 5,000 acres of land across Placer County. - Gus Thomson
