Vendors at this year’s Auburn Fall Home Show are putting a little heart into the three-day extravaganza by making special offers to 49 Fire victims. The annual event will feature more than 200 vendors as well as a little national “Tallant.” Shane Tallant, star of HGTV’s No. 1-rated show “Designed to Sell” will make an appearance at the Auburn event Saturday and Sunday. Tallant will share tips on how to make homes sellable. He will also talk about what goes into hosting his top show. Home Show producer/owner Lani Johnston Horan said she’s spoken with Tallant over the phone several times and described the host as “very personable.” She said the idea behind his show “blends in perfectly” with the Auburn event. “We know a lot of people are trying to sell their homes and this market is not as conducive to sellers as it is to buyers,” Johnston Horan said. Also, hundreds of vendors will be helping homeowners looking for anything from updating their interior to fixing their exterior — and many at a discounted price. “When a lot of vendors come to the show they offer specials and discounts,” Johnston Horan said. “It makes it much more affordable.” Johnston Horan added that the event is a great place for buyers to comparison shop. She said the show is keeping the current economy in mind by offering discounts to buyers and showcasing energy-efficient products. 49 Fire victims who contact the show can also receive special additional discounts, Johnston Horan said. “When this happened I e-mailed my exhibitors to see if there was anything they wanted to do because we know that the fire victims have really been devastated,” Johnston Horan said. “Within seconds I got responses back.” Johnston Horan described the offers as “very, very generous.” She said one exhibitor, whose home burned down when he was 10, is offering his services “at his cost.” “The warmth that came through and the generosity that came through for the fire victims — especially in this economy when we know a lot of businesses are not doing as well as they used to — is so very generous,” Johnston Horan said. Doug Rhodes, who owns American Design Solutions, a custom-home building and design company based in Roseville, said his business is among those looking to help homeowners. He said his business is offering large discounts as well as free energy compliance for rebuild or new construction. “We’re just simply looking for how we can help with the economy,” Rhodes said. Johnston Horan added that with the show’s friendly atmosphere and “rock-bottom” prices, it will be a great event for many homeowners to attend. “People live someplace whether it’s an apartment or condo or home,” Johnston Horan said. “There’s always a need for a product or service for the home … and we have it all here.” Jenifer Gee can be reached at jeniferg@goldcountrymedia.com. ---------- Auburn Fall Home Show When: Friday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Where: Gold Country Fairgrounds, 1273 High St., Auburn Cost: $6 general admission; $1 children 5-12; children under 5 free; seniors 60 and older $2 (Friday only); $4 parking.
