Next weekend the barbecues will be billowing smoke and people will be looking to getaway for one last trip as the official end of summer — the Labor Day holiday — rolls in.

But getting around in the Sierra Foothills to fun destinations, such as Lake Tahoe and other locales, will require some patience and safe driving as Interstate 80 and other local highways undergo construction by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).
