Bear River 10-11s edge Sierra Foothills

The Bear River Little League 10-11 year-old All-Star squad outlasted Sierra Foothills 10-8 Saturday afternoon to advance at the District 11 Area 2 tournament in Penn Valley. Dayton Anderson was 2-for-4 with three RBIs while Isaac Van Patten and Brett Solomon collected three hits apiece to lead the Bear River offense. Martin Virgil was 2-for-2 with a triple and Tyler Toft had two RBIs. Martin Virgil pitched two strong innings in relief of Kyle Soria and Brett Solomon tossed one inning of scoreless ball to get the save for Bear River, which beat Newcastle 12-0 in the tournament opener Thursday. Soria and Matt Lopez had two hits apiece and Toft was outstanding behind the plate at catcher. Bear River manager Randy Anderson also noted the defensive work of infielders Nick Mansuetti and Lopez. Bear River will take on Penn Valley Monday at 5:30 p.m. Sierra Foothills will be back on the field Tuesday for an elimination game at 5:30 p.m. Auburn’s 10-11 year-old All-Stars will begin the Area 1 tournament against Lincoln on Monday in Rocklin at 5 p.m.
