Bear River hosts 5K run Saturday

The Bear River High cross country team is hosting the inaugural South Nevada County 5K on Saturday. The event will begin and end at Bear River and is open to the public. The event is a fundraiser for the Southern Nevada Cross Country scholarship fund (supporting Bear River and Forest Lake Christian’s teams). There will be t-shirts for all pre-registered ntrants and medals for the top three in each age division for both the 5K run and 5K walk. For more information, call (831) 475-9560 or visit Mammoth Bar Downhill races coming up The inaugural Mammoth Bar Dowhill will be held Sept. 11 and 12 near Mammoth Bar in the Auburn State Recreation Area as part of Cyclebration, the Folsom Lake Bike Festival. The Mammoth Bar Dowhill will include a pro division as well as three category levels, female divisions and junior divisions. There will be registration and practice runs held Friday, Sept. 11 and the downhill races will begin Saturday at 10:30 a.m. The pro division will hit the course at 3:30 p.m. Cost is $55 per racer and there will be a raffle and award ceremony immediately following Saturday’s action. For more information, visit Sizzler 49er Canyon Run next month The 29th annual Sizzler 49er Canyon Run is slated for Monday Sept. 7 in Auburn. The 10-mile trail course can be run as a two-person relay or as a solo event. There is also a 1.5-mile community walk. There are eight age divisions and nine relays from which to choose. Winter bowling leagues starting in September Foothills Bowl has an opening in the Wednesday men’s handicap league for a team of five. League play begins at 6:30 p.m. each week. There is also an opening for the Gutter Flooders League for three people. This is a mixed handicap league held each Monday night at 6:30 p.m. The Tuesday Blue Chip League also has openings for both men and women.
