The Auburn Union Elementary School District board of trustees has named Daniel Berlant its newest member. Berlant will serve as a provisional trustee, filling the vacancy left by former trustee Steven Weaver’s resignation in January. Berlant will hold the position through the remainder of Weaver’s term, which concludes following the Nov. 2 general election. “I’m very honored that the board did vote me in as a provisional trustee,” Berlant said. Berlant, a longtime Auburn resident, is no stranger to the district. He regularly attends board meetings, has produced student drama productions and has served on Auburn Union’s budget and 21st Century committees. “It’s given me some very good insight on the district over the past five or six years,” he said. Berlant is a Cal Fire department information officer, and said his background in communication will come in handy with his new role as trustee. “We are pleased with the appointment of Daniel Berlant to the Auburn Union Board of Trustees,” Superintendent Michele Schuetz said. “Daniel has been an active participant in our district’s committees and events for several years. He regularly attends board meetings and understands district operations, programs, and budget. He has shown his commitment to the entire school community.” The board swears in Berlant at 7 a.m. Tuesday at the district office, 255 Epperle Lane. Reach Loryll Nicolaisen at
