Blame starter, not firefighters

We just had a serious, dangerous fire that could have been much worse. Massive response by firefighters stopped it before it got completely out of control and caused much more damage. No one begrudges the cost, or says that it wasn’t needed. Not long ago, our economy was in free-fall. Virtually every economist supported a massive government stimulus to stop it from collapsing into a second Great Depression. That was done and the immediate problem has stabilized. Many people criticize the stimulus spending without thinking about the alternative. The problem is not the firefighters, it is whoever started the fire. The economic problem is not the stimulus program, it is the economic mismanagement that brought our country to its knees. Here’s a hint: $9 trillion of our $11 trillion national debt was run up under presidents: Reagan and the two Bushes. Art Hager, Auburn
