Business brief: Auburn Dutch Bros.raises $3,150 to help customer battling cancer
The Auburn community came together in a tremendous show of love on Jan. 18, when customers helped Dutch Bros. Coffee raise $3,150 for Tami Cooke, a long-time customer who has been battling cancer since May 2011.
Dutch Bros. Auburn saw traffic at the stand double that day as community members turned out in droves to help a fellow Auburn resident in need. In fact, $1,600 of the total raised came from customer cash donations on top of the proceeds donated by Dutch Bros.
“It was amazing,” local owner-operator Jeremy Mauel said in a press release. “Tons of generosity!” Dutch Bros. bro-istas also donated all of their tips to Tami that day.
“It feels incredible to help out someone who has helped us out by being a regular customer,” said bro-ista Nick James.
The total raised will go toward helping Tami and family pay for medical expenses incurred since her diagnosis. Doctors diagnosed Tami with kidney cancer in May 2011 and removed the cancerous area as part of her treatment. Then, in June 2012, Tami learned that the cancer had reappeared in her left lung. She underwent radiation and partial removal of the left lung, only to learn soon after that another cancerous module had been discovered on her right lung.
