Emergency crews responded to a car fire on Interstate 80 Saturday afternoon. The dispatch center received multiple 911 calls at about 1:38 p.m. reporting that a green sedan or sports car was on fire in the center divide on westbound I-80 near Ophir Road, according to Anale Burlew, fire captain at the Cal Fire Grass Valley emergency command center. Witnesses told 911 dispatch that they saw smoke and flames coming from the vehicle. An occupant was reportedly standing outside and the car was unoccupied, Burlew said. Auburn City Fire responded and confirmed upon arrival that the vehicle was on fire. Burlew said the fire was contained at about 1:45 p.m. A tow truck and California Highway Patrol assistance was requested. No injuries are known and emergency crews did not request an ambulance, Burlew said.
