Classical sounds heard at 'Pioneer Presents'

Pioneer United Methodist Church and Auburn Community Concerts present the fifth concert in the “Pioneer Presents” series at at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 15, at 1338 Lincoln Way, Auburn.

The Sierra String Quartet with special guest Henry Hansen, clarinet, presents “First Impressions,” a journey through the first movements of two works in appreciation of the Romantic and Impressionistic musical periods. These favorites include the string quartet by Ravel and clarinet quintet by Brahms. 

David Thorp, viola, and Chi-Xin Thorp, piano, will play compositions by Faure and Bach. David Thorp is principal violist of the Auburn and Stockton symphonies. Ch-Xin Thorp graduated from University of the Pacific conservatory and California State University, Sacramento.

CurvdAire Brass Quintet will perform compositions by contemporary women composers.
