Dairy industry has ugly side

It’s good to know that the Bowman Charter School’s students are learning about nutrition (Journal, Sept. 28). However, I see your story about the Mobile Dairy Classroom as advertisement for the dairy industry. I wonder if the students, who thought it was so neat to see a cow and find out where milk comes from, were told that a cow is producing milk for a calf who is stolen from her the same day it’s born. She doesn’t produce milk unless she has given birth recently. I am sure the Dairy Council does not offer that information to their future customers voluntarily. It’s the ugly truth about dairy products, and if they had been told, they might have felt sorry for Milky Way and all dairy cows. Trish Eley, Meadow Vista
